Bags of energy
Kojak’s Revenge The Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea
I arrived to join an already lively audience at the Wedgewood Rooms for the Kojak’s Revenge pre-New Years Eve party. The room was full and the band received a great reception as they started their set.
This local, no-frills group are all about creating a party atmosphere. They were enthusiastic about the night ahead and got straight down to business with big hits from The Kinks, The Jam and even the Bay City Rollers.
The crowd were of all ages but Kojak’s material was catered to chop and change from 60s music to tunes from today’s chart.
The gig kept good momentum but it was their rendition of Kings of Leon’s Sex On Fire that brought the house down, the atmosphere was electric and this was only the first half.
After the interval followed another 45 minutes of party anthems and sing-along tunes including Town Called Malice and Mr Brightside.
The group naturally gelled as a band and played without fault and looked as though they were really enjoying themselves.
In return, the crowd danced and sang and gave raucous applause after each hit.
Kojak’s Revenge are not a tribute, nor did they play any original material, but the variety of covers they did were fantastic. A great live set with bags of energy, it may well have actually been New Year’s Eve.
